Invisible Workforce to Key Workers: Why Choosing to Pay the Living Wage Matters More Now Than Ever

We celebrate Living Wage Week every year but this year we had the privilege of supporting the Foundation’s cause publicly at the Cleaning Show at the start of November. You can catch up on our CEO & Founder’s presentation here.
It’s true to say we see the value Living Wage rates bring to our teams and customers. Properly paid and cared for, cleaners are not only responsible for our health and wellbeing but are the backbone of smooth operations and a good reputation. To celebrate Living Wage Week this year we asked our teams what the Living Wage really means for them.

The Living Wage makes a real and tangible difference in the lives of so many hard working people. We hope more businesses will join us in the movement and help improve standards of work and pay for thousands of others in our industry.
Despite being the difference between thriving and just surviving for many, recent research reveals 4.8 million workers are still paid below Living Wage, and struggle to meet their everyday needs.

The History of the Living Wage Movement
Since its inception in 2002, the Foundation has helped more employees in low paid jobs secure a fair pay rate. By 2021, 8000 businesses are accredited and £1.5bn has been paid back to the workers who deserve it.
